right, i have some cheapey akasa thermal compound and to be honest i dont think its doing the job as i have to renew it every 2weeks! :(

when watching a few videos over @ toms hardware guide i saw them using a thermal paste that was of a tooth paste (well almost) texture, white thickish stuff, and i was wounderin if that was better. Well more to the point (within price reason) what is the best / better thermal paste to get, becuase this stuff im using obviously isnt up to the mark

Toothpaste is actually pretty good.

Thermal paste, in my humble opinion, is not all it's cracked up to be. The amount of paste between the cpu and the heatsink/waterblock is so small that the so-called difference between the pastes can have little to no measurable temperature difference in the real world. Most people who report huge drops from using Antarctic Palladium 23 or whatever have simply removed poorly applied factory rubbish with carefully applied paste and a well mounted heatsink.

Is fancy thermal goop as good as the manufacturers would like you to believe, and as various Junior Overclockers do believe? Nope.

Is it, therefore, a complete waste of money? Absolutely not.

Just be aware that it's not magic, and don't expect the most expensive stuff to work very much better than generic grease.

very good to know cheers,

its just with this stuff i see cpu temps rise, rise, rise around 10c over 2-4week period, but as soon as i clean it up, reaply paste it drops that 10c. Just i dont belive that is neccesery! in thast case i will just get some nice NEW stuff,

cheers bud
