quick question. Is the stuff you get free with the heatsink. Ordered some AS5 ..but it seems it wasnt packed (that or it's gone walkies).

always used Artic silver so just wondered if that other stuff was any good.
 
It might vary depending on the heatsink but whatever is supplied will be fine for most uses. Arctic (for instance) give you pre-applied MX-2 paste on their Freezer 7 Pro which is arguably as good or better than their own AS5.
 
ok. general uses? i plan on playing games..games and more games..and cranking up everything to high (just because i can). Was told to wait till i have some AS5 and not use the supplied "junk"
 
What heatsink is it you have? It is quite possible that the pre-applied paste/pad is decent. There is occasionally almost a form of snobbery regarding this sort of thing, AS5 or MX-2 might get you a couple of degrees colder than some generic paste but for running at stock or even mild overclocking I'd be very surprised if the pre-applied stuff wasn't up to the job.
