Need to replace thermal goo on some core2duo's. What's the current best practise; a blob in the middle or to neatly spread it out?
 
What thermal past are you looking at using, as some manufacturers recommend different ways.
 
cheapest akasa stuff they sell here, not a great believer in expensive stuff (lost my 5yr old big tube grr)
 
try for an even blob though, because you don't really want a blob that will create air pockets as you seat the heatsink.
