I ordered a new CPU for my PC the other day, along with some Arctic Silver MX-5 (or something, perhaps I'm getting confused with the car...).

Anyway, my question is, how do I actually put this stuff on properly? Before I used to just use the pads you get (I've since been told they're fairly crap) and they were pretty easy to apply. Also, the retail Intel CPUs come with thermal paste applied, but it's worth changing, right?

Link below how Arctic cooling recommend to apply the thermal compound:

It's upto you if want to use the MX-2 but it susposed to be one of the better compounds, not sure what Intel use though :)

In the interests of diversity always, alternate link and method:

Applying TIM

Probs best to try the 'official' way first though and see what results are like.

In terms of it being worth it, I would say so. Just look at some of the reviews on it in the store.
