anyone know the best way to get it off?
Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.
isopropyl alcoholanyone know the best way to get it off?
I never have but as it stands there in some on two pins.Don't get it on the pins in the first place
Assuming this is an AM4 cpu, then probably dental floss might do the job
Non conductive pastes can cause poor connections or outright block conductivity.I suppose you are only really worried about shorting between pins
In future use contact cleaner spray from WD-40. Made for electronics and comes with a nozzle.
I remember installing my 5500. Jesus it's strangely tense. First time installing a CPU with pins. Always had Intel beforehand.
I've had it the opposite way. Ram that just will not click in,and being scared you're gonna crack something trying to force it in.RAM is way worse, when it just does not want to come out of the slots easily
Not true, you are confusing contact cleaner (hint - look at the name) with their other products. WD40 is a brand and not one product (a lot of people seem to not realise that), and they have multiple products for various use. One of them is designed specifically to clean electric contacts (in this case CPU pins are electric contacts) and would likely work well in this case.Stinky and attracts debris tho.
you're leaving cooling performance on the table with that, unless you're running a fairly mediocre cpu, i would advise against thisUse a thermal pad instead.
I have done for many years. My last CPU to use thermal paste was the i5-2500K.
Some IA and a toothbrush will help in your case.
