Thermal paste on CPU query

Hi all,

I am building a new computer for the first time in 20 years. Have got an Intel 12600k and bought a Corsair h100 AIO cooler. The AIO comes with thermal paste factory applied, do I need to also buy some thermal paste to apply on the to CPU too?

Michael

Nope, make sure the CPU is cleaned of any previous paste and put the AIO on without additional paste.

The pre-applied paste on the AIO should be fine and you should not apply any extra.

It can be useful to have a tube of paste around in case you have to remount the cooler in the future, but it's not strictly necessary.

Supplied paste is rarely as good as it gets, even that used between new gpu's and their heatsinks. See how good your temps are. Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut may drop you 5-10c, the extreme version a further 2-5c.

No. Just no. You are saying that the kryo extreme will drop temps up to 15c? Lol

When I redid the paste of my 7 year old or whatever 980ti the temps dropped by 0c, although cleaning out all the dust dropped the temps by about 10 c

I removed the pre applied thermal paste from my Corsair AIO before installing it and used Noctua NT-H2. It is doing what it is meant to.

Yes, saw it with my own eyes several times. Talking cpu more than gpu though and the supplied or factory applied paste. Definitely at least 7c as stated but have noticed more than 10c.
Not even LM will drop your temps by 15c. Probably bad application or bad mounting, there is no way in hell paste drops your temps by 15c. It's just not happening.

I was just about to make thread on this too.
Can someone give me some advice if possible please.

Just got 12700k, what is the best method to apply AS5 themal paste to this CPU. Last time I had an Intel was the 2500k and that was a pea size. With my 3700x I spread themal paste on.

Any advice would be great.

I've jsut built a 12600k with deepcool ak620cooler. Applied pea sized amount in centre - wroked a treat - spreading creates air bubble that reduce heat transfer.
