Evening all

Recently bought a used 1366 socket CPU from ebay (Sorry ocuk I would have bought it from yourselves but you dont stock 1366 anymore)

It arrived today and after checking to see that everything was ok, I noticed a small amount of compound - I can only assume thermal paste on the gold connectors.

Its a *really* small amount and I wasnt sure if it was enough to cause issues..

I suppose the only way to see if things are ok is to test it in the mobo and make sure everything is ok.

Do you guys think I should clean it first? After reading toms hardware they says its safe to clean the connectors if you use 90% + alcohol - do you think I should try that first before testing?

any help appreciated

I would try and clean it off very carefully before using as some compounds can be conductive.

Just wipe it off with thermal paste remover before you install it into the mb,its far easier to wipe it off the CPU than it is to wipe off all those tiny CPU socket pins

Yh or some kitchen towel paper dabbed in solution
