Happy new year all.

Just re-building a system with a new course, m/b and gpu. I've used EK ectotherm to stick the thermal pads on the GPU RAM etc and pretty much the last of my IC Diamond on the GPU itself. I've got an EK monoblock to do the CPU and surrounding VRMs. I was thinking Ectotherm for the VRMS as I've got loads and they shouldn't be a massive heat issue. The CPU I'm stressing about as u don't think I can squeeze any more IC Diamond out the tube and it's not the freshest anyway so it's really thick. I was looking at getting some PK3 but it's going to be days before that turns up and I'm keen to get on with it! :D I'm running a 6700K under water and will probably just ramp up the turbo frequency so it'll give me more performance when I need it and behave when I don't. Am I going to notice more than a degree or two difference if I just stick Ectotherm on the CPU or am I just being paranoid?!
Cheers all.
Gareth

Hi

Today's thermal paste doesn't differ much from other ones (unless you have used tooth paste :P ). Anyway, 1-2C is not much difference to be honest so stick to whatever you have (EK's thermal paste is very good so use it well ;) )

You don't need thermal paste with pads as the pads themselves perform that role. Just use Ectotherm on the cpu. I didn't find any of IC's products up to much when I took part in a trial a couple of years ago and don't think it's worth the money.

use the EK stuff on the cpu too then.....

I use what ever crap i get what the parts i buy. right now i have a massive tube of the EK stuff that i get with a gpu block and i will be sticking it on everything i need a TIM on until i run out then i will move onto the XSPC stuff i got with a block.

bad TIM will make a 1c difference in temps, there is no need to be worried, just use branded stuff and dont use the EBAY type rubbish

Thanks guys. Thought I was probably getting too hung up on something that ultimately made very little difference...but I guess that's what we all do here! ;)
Plus I love it when I get the answer I was hoping for :D

How you apply thermal paste will have more impact than which thermal paste you use. But if you're like me you just go for the better stuff anyways :)
