Thermal paste problem!!!

Is it possible for it to make the cpu hotter?

This is pretty annoying, i recieved it the other day and ive put it on my CPU, but it seems to be making it hotter.

My comp just shoots to the 50's when i start it up, and i dont know why, i keep the fans clear that it needs clear but it seems to make no difference.

I think its just crap paste i bought, im gonna buy some more on friday, anyone reccommend any decent stuff that WILL work a lot..

And does anyone know where i can get myself some plastic mesh as im gonna mod my laptop for cooling..

if you use too much tim then temps will be higher, but also if you use the lower quality/cheaper stuff too

even low quality paste wouldnt be that bad, it sounds like it has been badly applied.

what method did you use? how thick was the layer?
