Thermal paste reviews/opinions

There are so many different pastes, types and compounds these days it is getting pretty hard to follow. Especially when you go find reviews of them and find a 6w/mk paste matches a 10...
Like, is the advertised rating a load of tosh or what?

I've seen statements saying that you need to replace pastes every year, I've seen some claim to be good for 8 years. Again, with varying compounds and all that too.

I haven't used paste on a PC CPU in years now, I moved back to consoles as I get too carried away with mods and upgrades. Anyway, Ps4 pro is a noisy beast outa the box. I replace all the pads and paste with TG kryonaut and Gelid extreme pads 12 and 12.5 rating between. As you can probably guess, the standard 4/6 rated stuff did very little as upon the rebuild, the console was silent. 8 to 12 months later, the Kryo ha dried up some and needed redoing, I think the pads were still OK, but I was taught if you open these up, change them cause they act like a gasket, upon use have imperfections and rebuilding with used stuff can wreck thermals. (Admittedly once or twice I've refused to change 6 month old pads and dotted some paste just to be sure of good connection.)

I've seen a Thermalright paste just shy of 14w/mk and claims to be good for 8 years, thing is.. I can find no actual reviews aside written, personally I like more facts and proof than some randomer on amazon call Jeff saying it works...

The Kyro worked nicely, but dried up rather quickly. So what do people use, what's its rating and what are your experiences with different pastes? I mean I would like a 10+ paste that lasts more than 12 months. That said, I would also like to know why some say change any stuff 12months in and others say you can leave things 8 years?

Please and thank you O' great OC forum :P

Any good paste will not last 8years as it will suffer from the "Pump Out Effect" so need replaced, that is why the Motherboard Chipsets come with hard gunk like the Asus Pink bubble-gum years ago and the Heatsinks on OEM PC's in early 2000's had a small wax looking patch (same colour as Elastoplast) stuck to the heatsink and mounted to the CPU (so it lasts years/decades).

@random_matt Yeah, I think that's the stuff. I've seen both, but how long do they last? Advert claims 8 years.

@turbot1984 True, but there are testers out there, I've seen several of those review things, hence the details in my post asking for user exp. some of those things make the issue cloudier than before.

@JohnG7 Pump out effect? Can't say I've heard that one. I shall go look into it. I know better pastes last less time at peak, but again like the TF-8 stuff, claims 8 years on the advert. I don't need one to last til the end of time, a 2 year window would be nice. gets tiresome constantly stripping and rebuilding things.
