can someone tell me the best/correct way to apply this to my heatsink, how much do i need to use ? im thinking maybe a "small" pea size blob ? then how do you spread it over the heatsink, is it a case of just connecting it to the CPU and it will spread out on its own or should i use something to do that ?

any help would be great!

Small amount, generally a "rice sized blob" and then either spread it out thinly on the CPU/bottom of heatsink or just put the blob on the cpu and move the heatsink around a little. Theres a guide on the arctic silver website I think.
