Thermal Paste?

i managed to stick my finger in the thermal paste that is supplied on the bottom of the cooler for my i7 920 processor.

since i done that i cleaned off the remaining paste with a cloth as i dont trust using it as i suspect it is more likely now to overheat since there is less paste now.

could anyone recommend me some top notch thermal paste as i might try overclocking the processor later on?

also, was it alright to just use a cloth to clean off the remaining paste or am i meant to use some sort of fluid to do it??

when i cleaned the compound off with a paper kitchen towel i noticed a small scratch on the copper plate area of the heatsink/fan.

have i damaged it at all or will it be fine when i reapply more thermal paste?

i've been told that a small amount of nail polish remover (as its made of acetone) on a lint free cloth would be an good household choice for removing/cleaning the excess thermal compound off my heatsink.

is this true?

ended up stealing some alcohol whipes from the 1st aid box at my work to clean the residue and its worked a treate :)

just gotta wait on the MX-2 turning up along with my gx card so i can finish building this pc.

heres hoping it wont be too long! :)
