Hey Guys.

Just bought the H50 to replace my stock cooler. I'm running the AMD PHENOM II X3 720.

I also bought the artic silver thermal paste... only £6... so i thought what the heck.

Then watched an installation video of the H50 and seems to already come with thermal compound already applied.

Should i remove the stock paste and replace it with the Artic silver paste or should i should keep it as a spare.

Is there any diffrence?

Thanks a lot.
Andy.

up to you,

think I read that changing the stock paste to MX-3 dropped the temps by 1degree, makes you question whether its worth the effort and then worrying if you have applied enough or to much aftermarket paste

Any sort of alcohol should do it.

Might aswell lap the chip and heatsink while you're there and get it down a few more degrees

OUCH!
You just bought a H50, are asking whether to change the paste and someone suggests you lap it as well. Hmmm...:(

You'll get maybe a degree or so out of different paste so it's up to you if you can be bothered. 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and lint free cloths will cost you a few quid but it is quite therapeutic doing it and knowing it is right. :D

PLEASE don't watch a vid on youtube and then lap it, that is bad advice that can cost you your chip for the sake of a couple of degrees.

Good luck man.

To be honest you're probably not going to see too much of a performance increase with the non-stock thermal paste. If the feeling takes you to do it the go ahead by all means ^_^
