Has anybody tried this fan out on a tower cpu cooler yet?

I'm interested in changing the Noctua fan on my Thermalright Ultra Extreme heat sink as I just don't think the max rpm is high enough to bring the temperatures back down when my overclocked CPU is at load.

Cheers

Id agree Tealc, though the TY fans have 120mm mounting holes. The frame of the fan would more than likely clash with the heatsinks around the cpu socket. Ive got a TRUE in my second rig, even with a 120mm fan theres not much space between the fan frame and heatsinks.

Yes the TRUE is a 120mm heatsink.
Space around the heatsink isn't a problem because my board (p9x79 pro) has loads of space around the cpu socket.

It's really a question of:

1 - if the fan holder clips would reach around the fan to hold it place
2 - just how loud is the fan at 2600rpm and what kind of noise does it make

You need to make custom fan clips for it to fit, as the stock one wont fit around the fan. The TY-143 is still as wide as a 140mm fan.

A 2600RPM 140mm fan will be very loud at full tilt. The static pressure isn't all that great, either. It generally works best on heatsinks with low FPI like the NH-D14/Silver Arrow etc.

I recommend the Corsapir SP120, or 2x GT 1850RPM or CM Blademasters (cheap, sleeve bearing but really good static pressure, PWM too)
