Hi all, i've got a Thermaltake toughpower 700watt modular psu that is rated as having 18amps on each of it's 4 12v rails but it also says max 56amps total on all rails, if i do my maths 56 divided into 4 = 14amps per rail, where's the logic in that? Any thoughts?

None whatsoever, it's important to remember that a whole rail is kept specifically for the CPU, mobo and RAM when you have a multirailed PSU, so your mobo and cpu and ram are all sharing one 14a (18a regularly) rail, so that's perfectly safe.

Then you've got a good 35 left for any graphics cards or hdd's or whatever else.

Basically, your PSU is still better than most.
