What is this case like?

I currently have an Antec Sonita 1 with an ugraded psu, cpu cooler, gpu cooler and two 120mm fans. It is very quiet and the quietest pc I have ever heard. But I dont know anyone else who has tried 2 make theirs quiet so no competition really

So yeah what is the above case like? It appears pretty cool. I have 6 harddrives in my current case along with a S754 3700+ and an X800 XT PE and it all runs very cool. In the new case I will have a conroe cpu, X1900 XT-X, Hiper HPU-4K580-MK Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU – Black, and only 5 harddrives this time  so will i be able to make it pretty quiet again? What is it like having a fan on the side....does it make much noise? Also since it has two 120mm fans and one 90mm fan on the side I guess it will run cool?

Does anyone have this case if so what do they think of it?

Your making a sideways move with the case really, it is no better than what you have and will be noisier if you plan on using stock fans.

For a upgrade from your current case you are really looking at a Lian Li PC7+, Akasa Eclipse 62 or a high end Silverstone minimum really.

Unless you really like the look of the soprano it is to much of a sideways move that I would not consider it personally, you would need to set your sights higher to get any real benefit bar the look of the thing. :)

Now those are good points...but I have got bored of my case now. And I really fancy something with a side window. My brother has another make not sold on ocuk and it does look pretty smart.

Thing is I do like the look of the Soprano and the cases you posted about I find quite bland. The other thing with the Soprano is that I can fit my 5 harddrives in and if I want to put another in there will be room behind the external 3.5". Already have done that with two in the Antec and would prefer them internally. (currently have 6 but will get rid of my 120gb IDE). The other thing is the amount of external 5.25"...I will definitely have a dvd-rw, and probably a fan controller, and maybe a x-fi fatal1y with the front panel...and if i put some cathodes in I may make a panel with switches I dont know but could get a fan controller to do this I guess.

I will see how loud it is and if its too loud I will upgrade the fans.

My other question is there anything else then that is an 'upgrade' that will look cool, have a side window, fit all the above and be quiet?

Cheers :)

The Thermaltake Aguila + Swiftech Apex Ultra.
That's what I'll be getting on my coming rig.

Both together will set you back under £240 inc VAT.

I had a Sonata for a couple of months, thought it was ok, a little cramped inside maybe. I bought an Akasa Eclipse last week and the difference in quality is amazing, the Sonata ended up down the local tip.

I just dont like the Eclipse is too bland. The Sonita ain't a bad case. It is a bit cramped but then again I dont open it up and change things around every week so not a real problem. But I dont have the stock fans or psu so is much quieter.

"The Thermaltake Aguila + Swiftech Apex Ultra" Thats sounds cool matey but £240 is abit harsh on the wallet. And I prefer the look of the Soprano to the Aguila. Also watercooling is a good route and I am tempted but I just I hear that the X1900xt-x run hot and I would still have the PSU fan(s). So I will stick with air cooling which I currently have and thats sufficient for my needs.

why would you scrap a sonata and not sell it on ebay

My thoughts exactly. In fact, I was in the market for a similar case :o

Soprano isn't a bad case at all. a good looker but the quality will be no different to your sonata. I own one, and It's very good for the price imo.

Well, personally I'm not gonna water cool that x1900xt (coz I'm getting the HiS xt, it is already silent enough)

Also, if you like the Saprano, then you can go with that + the Swiftech Apex Ultra... That'll be errm... £200?
When you've got more money, you can always then upgrade and get the Northbridge/GPU water block.

Edit: Actually, why not keep your Sonata then just upgrade to watercooling? £150ish - tho you'll be left without a side window...

Im will sell my current pc. So will no longer have my case. I have been very happy with the sonita so think I should be equally happy with the Soprano.

Im not looking for improved quality as after all it is a case and is there just to protect and hold my hardware....if it looks cool thats a bonus (y)

Mul how quiet is yours? Could you sleep with it on for example with it about 2-3m from your bed? (cant remember the size of my room next year in the house we are renting at uni) I can do that now.

I will look into water-cooling closer to the time (currently just looking at stuff on the market and will prob build my new rig around sept).

The case makes very little difference to the noise of a PC, it is what you put in it fans and cooler wise that determine the noise level.

If you PC is quiet in a Sonata, it will be quiet in a Soprano.

No the point is I am selling my current system and only keeping 3 harddrives everything else is being replaced since technology has moved on. Im not simpling just swapping my case.

I think I will do what I did with my current rig buy all my stuff and then see how hot, loud everything runs then change fans, etc.

I think I will go for the Soprano as looks cool imo and has everything I require.

You missed my point there, I was saying that any case can be quiet, it is what you put in it that makes the noise, the case just houses the bits.

You will need to replace the graphics card coolers, case fans etc. That was my whole point.

I was just saying that im changing my pc so will see how loud it is first :P I know fans, etc make the main difference in noise levels but a cheap £19 case would be louder due to it being thinner, not having harddrive mounts, etc

I never really notice the difference, as long as the case does not resonate I don't usually notice the noise difference between cases.

The P180 does eliminate fan hum, but thats about all I have ever noticed from one case to another.

It might look bland but it's functional, it has excellent air flow and is very well built, far better quality than anything Thermaltake have ever released, speaking of which, why would anyone pick a Soprano over a Sonata?

I would pick a Soprano over a Sonata 1 but not 2.

But I would pick the Sonata 1 over the Tsunami.

Just my personal tastes, the cases are quite close but the Soprano looks nicer to me. Not much between them why I see it as a weird 'upgrade'. :p

Its not an 'upgrade' :p I have never said I am upgrading my case I simple asked what people think of it.

I will be selling my current rig (ie the sonita 1 case) so will need a new case. For my needs the sonita has been good. I like the look of the Soprano but does it have good airflow, etc.

So yes it may be a 'sideways' movement....but I am happy with my current case but will need a new one. So surely I will be happy with the Soprano too? (only thing i dnt like is the black cables from the top of the case which go down to the motherboard, for usb....seems a bit rubbish since there too short to hide.

Yeh it has good airflow.

Whats the point in a new case if you don't go foreward! :p

Its a good case, along the lines of your current one. :)

Well for me it is forward as it will look better as I will light it up and stuff :P Kinda wish in some ways I went for a case with a side window b4 as my bro has one and does look really cool!

Anyways cheers for the comments
