Thermostat Timer Help!

Got a manual timer thats twists with blue "teeth" that can be in or out so to speak. Has a clock in the middle too and what looks like an on/off control.

Now up until today we havent used the heating but the mrs was moaning last night so anyone got any clue how these old manual timers work?!

Teeth in= Heating on. The whole thing turns- Twiddle round it to set the time (Should be current at the top, 12 o'clock position)
The switch should have 3 positions- Top= Off, Middle= Heating on as per timer & Bottom= Heating on permanantly.

Edit: At least thats how it works on a Worscter/ Bosch boiler, other makes may be different- I'm not responsible for you're plumbers
