Guys, we are are going to be receiving stock today of the new 500R cases from Corsair. Stock should ship out today.

Corsair Carbide 500R Midi Tower Case - Black/White @ £94.99 inc VAT

CA-057-CS_400.jpg

Want even more outrageous cooling flexibility? Step up to the 500R. It adds a 200mm fan mounted on the side panel’s mesh screen for extra GPU cooling, a multi-channel fan controller, and removable and relocateable hard drive cages. The ability to move and remove hard drive cages not only improves airflow — it also allows you to install graphics cards of up to 452mm in length.
Support for USB 3.0 and 2.5” SSDs is built-in. Two USB 3.0 connectors are provided on the front panel and connect directly to motherboards with compatible USB 3.0 headers. Integrated SSD support lets you install 2.5” solid-state drives in any of the hard drive bays, without having to deal with adapters.
The beauty on the inside goes beyond the black-painted interior. Corsair’s innovative cable management system provides a straightforward way to route cables behind the motherboard, not across it where it can interfere with airflow and give your system a cluttered look. And since looks are an important part of any build, you’ll appreciate the ability to turn the front panel fan white LEDs on or off with the push of a button.

- Side panel with mesh fan mount locations
- Dimensions: 20.5” x 8.1” x 20”
- Four 5.25” drive bays
- Six 3.5” hard drive bays with 2.5” compatibility

Why do case manufacturer's still think people need more than one 5.25" bay? Especially when the case has its own built in fan controller. I really like the look of this case but 6 HDD bays is the problem with my current P182!

EDIT: By the way, its 'en route' :p.

LOL Smart arse :)

You can need multiple 5.25" bays for a number of reasons, card readers, 2 optical drives and maybe a seperate fan controller and even a double bay res for watercooling.

Options are there, you may not need them all though. You have 7/8 expansion slots but I bet you dont use all of them either?

I guess so, it just seems a lot less common than it was back in the day. When people might have a DVD-ROM and a CD-RW as separate drives etc, when optical media was actually more prevalent for enthusiasts than anything else. Pretty much the only time I use a disc nowadays is an OS install!

Also for the cost (minimal) they are incredibly versatile, much more so than just replacing them with 3.5" HDD bays, as if you've got say 4 5.25" bays and 4x 3.5" bays you can easily have anything up to 8x 3.5" drives (or more 2.5" ones*), or a mix with up to 4 optical drives etc.

Not to mention removable drive caddies, some sound cards have connection panels etc that use a slot to give you a range of connections.

Basically if they put just one or 2 5.25" bays it's much more likely to cause lost sales than if they put more in (for a midi or full tower), as you can easily use a larger bay for additional internal drives if needed, but you can't do anything about needing another 5.25" bay apart from either buying a new case completely, or an external drive box (which may or may not solve the problem, and is messy).

I personally find that a minimum or at least 3 optical bays is the least I'll consider in a new case as that lets me put in a cheap optical drive for general use, an expensive one (say a blu-ray writer) for a specific use and still have a spare bay.

*I'm sure I've seen units that fit a pair of 2.5" drives into a 5.25 bay, and even something like 3x 3.5" drives into 2x5.25" bays (with a cooling fan at the front).

ordered oh yeah been waiting for this to replace my well used antec 300 for a while

will you guys have enough stock to fulfil orders? or more importantly will i get one :P

5.25 bays do annoy me... Lancool put 4 HDD bays in the K62 and 5 Optical drive bays... Now for a case that doesn't suit watercooling particularly, that's just stupid...

Also, Different sized cases through bad perspective photography!

I've ordered one, but from a competitor as OcUK didn't have any mention of them & they're more expensive :(

Can't wait for mine to turn up though. Nice case & design.

Even swapping my Fractal R3 for it.
