A call to arms!
I've entered team OcUK - Overclockers UK into the 'theSkyNet POGS - In memory of William A. Bradfield, Comet Hunter (1927-2014)' challenge over at Boincstats.

Starts: 9th July 1 am our time (midnight 9th July UTC)
Ends: 11th July 1 am our time (midnight 11th July UTC)

The object is simple, for teams to score as many points as possible in the 2 day frame, all you need to do is to crunch for team OcUK - Overclockers UK. POGs work units do need to be verified by other donors so I would suggest starting a couple of days early in order to hit the ground running (or to hoard/bunker work units ;))

Participants, challenge team & user stats can be found here.

Thanks to anyone wishing to participate and good luck to all!

Ooh, my first challenge

I liked this...

"The Japanese comet hunters were his fiercest competitors, and he'd always sweep areas of sky visible to them first. Only later would he leisurely return to the sky visible only from the Southern Hemisphere."

from here http://www.skyandtelescope.com/astronomy-news/bill-bradfield-comet-hunter-extraordinaire-1927-2014/

I'll be joining in but wasn't going to switch over till late Saturday or Sunday, is that too late to get a head of steam up ?

Great! that should be ideal, I've found with pogs generally a couple of days later most of the pending credit generally comes in. I have one machine with 310 primaboinca tasks still to complete which will take another 3 days to complete  so what I'll do is download the pogs tasks now and hopefully my wingmen will crunch them and I'll validate them during the challenge.

I thought the start of the challenge was early Tuesday morning (our time) but have now realised it is Wednesday morning :o Just means I have an extra day of building up the pending credits :)

Yeah, primaboinca does download a whole bunch of tasks when you first start but sorts itself out. At least the points seem quite good value :D

It's one particular 3770K rig I have which goes crazy when fetching work on any boinc project for some reason, 710 tasks it grabbed for pogs  wish now I'd have started earlier, I'll probably get through a third of them before the start if I'm lucky.

Im in:)

Taken the big rig off folding for a few days to throw at this.

Great stuff! :)

Great start! currently 4th, we dumped 400,000 yesterday  though the Aussies and Frenchies who are behind us dumped more so it will be intersting to see how it goes.

PDW currently 3rd in the user stats! yous sure you ain't got no farm? ;)

I see now Ba has just nipped you for top spot amongst us. I have set all my machines to "no new tasks" so all the tasks report immediately when completed, to get as many points in before the deadline.

A guy at [H] realised at series of executables (with the consent of Kevin at skynet at the time) that were several times quicker than the official one, I was using the linux one which was around 10 times quicker than the one we're using know (I'm afraid I'm a bit of a fake being the top of our team :o ) but it turned out to give bad results some of time so we were asked not to use it.
