thick dual vs thin triple

Which would perform better. A 60mm thick 240rad or a 30mm thick 360 rad?

I would imagine the 60mm dual rad would equate to a 480 in 30mm thickness.

Going by that I would say the 60mm dual would be better.

i imagine this comes down to volume of mm^3

240mm*60mm = 14,400mm^3

360mm*30mm = 10,800mm^3

If you think about the volume, 240mm*60mm = 480mm*30mm

Personally id go for the thickest, largest rad you can with some slow gentle typhoons

I was thinking that but having checked some reviews comparing 35 + 45 mm to 60mm 360 rads, a lot of them perform very similarly, with some of the thinner ones even edging ahead. A thinner 360 would still allow for more fan space than a 240.

it really depends on fin spacing and what fans your going to use (and their rpm)

Yeah the new EX series from xspc are not far behind the RX series considering they are much thinner.

The cooling capacity depends on the temperature delta between the air and water. With a thicker rad the air in the later depth of the rad will be warmer reducing the heat transfer at that stage. 60mm will still provide the best cooling (design aspects equal), so long as it is the maximum size that will fit in a particular space.
