I remember playing these games many many moons ago and quite enjoying them... So was quite intrigued when I noticed today that a new entry to franchise is due out in February...

Apologies if this is mention somewhere else but I couldn't find a thread here...

On looking at the screen shots and watching the video's I dunno, it just kinda looks and feels dated, what do you guys think?

I only know enough about the original thief series to, for example, know that skyrim's stealth mechanic is loosely based around it. that said however the 2014 version I've seen a few interviews from the dev's for it and a few teasers and I must say if it's anything like what it promises [and I sincerely hope it's exactly what it promises] it's going to be one of the greats.

I love the thief series. Yeah they've gone with the times and added 'focus', and combat (oh dear) but the mechanics don't look that much different. I thought Dishonored gave the old Steampunk + steath thing a good blast, but lacked the original Thief sensibilities (and it wasn't trying to anyway).

Thief is probably my favourite series of all time but because of so many disappointments in recent years I don't hold high hopes, if its great then happy days but these days there is no way of knowing until its on your hard drive

I was just about to post a thread. I loved Thief. It's also my favorite type of gameplay, so really should get round to playing and completing dishonored! Can't wait!

Interesting update over at > EIDOS <

Stealth reboot Thief no longer includes any quick time events, developer Eidos Montreal has confirmed.

"We're not implementing them," studio spokesperson Valérie Bourdeau explained. "To begin with, there were very few instances of QTEs in the game; in fact there was only one in that whole hour-long E3 demo.

"However, given the strong reactions it evoked in the press and the community, it was an easy decision to do away with them entirely. So we're not doing it. No quick time."

Other features discussed by the development team included confirmation that game won't feature any swimming sections, and details of the "hardcore" difficult mode where you can toggle modifiers to make your play through more challenging.

"Hardcore mode... allows players to customize the game in a number of ways. One of my favorites is the Ironman: if you die, game over. Hey, what is life without a little risk? We even added a "If the enemy detects you, you die" mode. Now combine that with the Ironman... You get the point!

"There is also the possibility to disable Focus and related abilities, as promised. This is in addition to the option to disable specific elements of the UI, like the reaction icons for NPCs. The UI list is pretty extensive, so don't worry, you will be able to get the game just the way you like it."

Reading things a few months ago it wasn't looking good, but news like today could get us a better game.

Will be getting it whatever as the other games were my favourites, very fond memories.

And you can get it for free if you buy an AMD graphics card.

Thank god their doing away QTE along with unskipable logo's QTE are my biggist bug bearers in kodern video games. They seem to have crept into all sorts of games over last few years across all developers from Battlefield to The Witcher and serve no purpose other then to deliver some overly dramatic animations which breaks up the players game immersion.

Now if only they could somehow bring back Stphen Russell to do the VO then I could start to get really excited about this new installment.
