Hi,

Quick question, particularly for 290 crossfire configurations, but also interested if other configurations have problems too....

Has anyone had issues with Thief crashing out using Mantle? Does the benchmark tend to hitch when panning through the big gate? Using the 14.6 beta driver and Windows 8.1.

I ask because I have had a helluva time figuring out a problem with my PC lately. I have finally nailed down it down to a problem with the PSU 24pin power cable, and hopefully got things working again but I have had an additional crash or two with Thief, and I am unsure whether I have more fixing to do or whether Thief is just not that stable with my config.

I know my answers will become evident with some more testing, but i've already been through about 15 hours of testing with false-positive results and red herrings all over the place, so at this point communicating with you helpful chaps is necessary for my sanity.

I've had hitching with thief and not smooth frames because I didn't fully uninstall the drivers before installing different beta and 14.4s....

I've now installed 14.6 betas; did it this way uninstall drivers; then DDE; then installed drivers *after the reboots* seems to be working better....

I'll test with thief when I get home.....I'm running 78708 LE..

As above, install the drivers correctly as your first port of call. Do not install over the top. AMD don't recommend it officially.

Second the Thief benchmark sequence will sniff out an unstable overclock easily on Mantle. Make sure its stable. I've not had one crash with my 24/7 stable clocks. This includes cpu and memory btw. I can crash the benchmark by having too little vcore on my cpu for example.

That said there might be the odd crash here and there as its brand new feature added to Thief, but personally i have not seen any and im playing a lot of Thief at the moment.

ty for the feedback.

I was hoping for more of a "yeah Thief crashes all the time, don't worry!", but this did the job of restoring my sanity.

The PSU cable position was not an easy problem to identify. Which reminds me, I have an outstanding returns request with Gigabyte that I really should cancel now :|

ok testing with 14.6; first run no hitching smooth....messed with graphic settings and got hitching on last part of the benchmark......not sure in the graphics that's causing it lol; this is under mantle.

will need to test more; but using optimal settings for at least my graphics card; with raptr things are smooth :)
