Really? You've/Bruce spent more than PL clubs and ultimately failed, it can't have been that bad in the last two years buying the likes of Hourihane, Snodgrass, Hogan, Lansbury, Adomah for absolute fortunes!

Well, whilst the club spent a lot the last two years, a good chunk of that was before Bruce came in (McCormack being the most expensive pre-Bruce flop!)

Adomah was a swap with Traore (that happened before Bruce arrived anyway). Lansbury was around £3 million and Hourihane £3.5mill. Snodgrass was a loan. Then there was Whelan, Elmohamady, Bree, Bjarnason, and Taylor - all the rest of Bruce's signings were loans or free agents.

Hogan was his over-priced flop (and even he had a couple of good runs of form).

The problem was that regardless the amount spent, the club was in a bad way before Bruce arrived. Seemingly random player purchases that couldn't gel into a team, languishing near the bottom of the table and with a poisonous atmosphere in the squad and on matchdays. We had been playing awful football for years - and losing! He deserves a lot of credit for revitalising the club.

However, yes, he did ultimately fail as the goal last season had to be promotion. He was 90 minutes away, but he did fail. It could be argued that given the quality of the squad he shouldn't have (though I think Wolves and Fulham had better squads than we did).

Also, he's a decent and likable character.
