Thierry Henry

as much as i love watching him he is a bit of a fluffer when it comes down to the big games though

wouldnt say he deserves it anymore than the 3 that are shortlisted

No Premiership player can win the player of the year. They have to be a player in the Spanish league remember.

He wouldn't have won it anyway so its hardly a problem. So long as Ronaldinh-overated doesn't win it I don't mind.

So there is a retired thug, a buck toothed overrated brazillian thats done squat since May and the Italy wc winning captain?

Well done FIFA.

Zidane ???????
:o He's only on that list because he retired. He didn't have a great season at Real and didn't have the best WC and finished his career disgracefully. I agree with Cannavaro and Ronaldinho but would've liked to see Gerrard on that list.

He did have a magnificent world cup though. Henry plays well against dire teams like watford but when it comes to a half decent side he crumbles.

zidane had an ace world cup till the end IMO

i guess thats what theyre baseing his selection on
Zidane was poor in the WC up untill the semi finals. There were calls for him to be dropped for the Spain game because he was hampering the team. Played well in the last 3 rounds until the red card though.

I know exactly what you mean. :(

I mean, there's so many big games we've had where he's just failed to produce. I wish sometimes he'd just pull his finger out and just score now and then. Is it asking too much for him to get one against, say, Real Madrid? Or Man U? Or the tough defense of Chelsea?
Not to mention the countless games against Liverpool we've had. And god, how many London derbies does he need to bottle in?

Never really rated the bloke, if I'm honest.

whats your point dude?

Ohhhhh, I see now, it's the timeframe that matters is it, not whether he's actually scoring against the big teams or not. That'll be why he had the better scoring record against ManU than RvN did against us. No wait, I guess you just manage 20+ prem goals a season for the last 6 years by only scoring past the rubbish sides.

Honestly, I really can't be bothered to trawl google for hours to find his entire scoring record over the years, youtube was simply a lot quicker to do. All you have to do is type "Thierry Henry + [club name]" and lo and behold, you'll find at least one goal.

Him being a big-game bottler is utter, utter *******, and it annoys me that people continue to propogate that myth about him. He scores in big games just as much as any top class striker out there: ie. Not every single one, because he's not the second coming, but enough to count. As I said, you don't score that many goals by chance.

EDIT: I never thought I'd agree with BaZ, but there you go, he got it spot on.

i guess he's trying to say that a few goals against top clubs doesn't make him a big match player. Not nessecerely my view just the way i interpreted his post.

Imo i wouldn't say he was particuarly a big game player nor a bottler. There have been several big games (CL final and in a couple of the FA cup finals) where he has gone missing a bit but the links above have also shown (particualry the Liverpool and Real, and also vs Roma and Lazio which weren't in the links above) that he can practicaly single handedly turn/win a game.
