Thin client and remote desktop

Is it possible to setup a fairly power machine and then use slower machine and rdp into it and not notice the difference?

If not, what are the current hardware/software that limited this?

What you described is basically what thin client computing is. The limitations really depend on what you plan to do with it.

Unfortunately when I've investigated scenarios in the past the project can get unraveled by small details and niggling dependencies. I suggest you plan thoroughly.
