Does anyone know of any brands that make 120mm fans thinner than the standard 25mm?? preferable about 20mm thick. I seem to recall a few companies making 18mm thick ones at one time??

Cheers

Edited for being n00b-like :D

I'll be bloody impressed if a 120mmx120mmx2mm fan exists. I have a 140mmx140mmx15mmish that came out the frount of my case - replaced it with a real fan - yate loon 14cm.

its basically to go on a thermalright si-128. wonder if i can bodge a 14cm fan on with laggy bands? :)

Ive seen a few of them 140x140x15 fans around. if i can find a quiet one may be worth it??

How thick is that yate loon one you bought?

standard 25mm. Completely silent though, really great fans yate loons.

My PSU is bloody noisy too! Afraid to open it up though as it's a hiper and in a twisted way I'm hoping it'll die so I can RMA, sell and buy a quieter psu.

yeah, space is a tad limited :( i have a OrigenAE H7 htpc case and as said above a thermalright si-128. basically a normal 25mm deep fan is literally a few mm too thick to get the lid on the case properly but could do with a bit of airflow over the heatsink so something that is about 20mm thick or less should fit nicely

i think i might look into a thin 140mm fan

Please DO NOT EVER open a PSU. Capacitors in there store enough voltage to blow your socks off (i.e. kill ), even months after the PSU has had no power to it. Same applies to CRT.

Thank you for the warning. I am aware of the risks involved. I would always wear electircians gloves and drain power using 3 fans connected (one to each rail) once power supply was unplugged.

Never intend to mess about with electron guns.

why dont you just sell your hiper and buy a new psu?

I've got seasonic M12 500watt jobby and it is absolutly silent. tbh i think seasonic make the quietest psu's around

On-topic: I've found an aerocool streamliner 140x140x20mm fan that looks like it'll do the job, assuming i can mount it ok. think ill order one and find out. 19db at 50odd cfm aint too shabby :)

If it's new I'll get a better price. My PC is quiet and I'm not quite ready to go water yet so here's hoping my PSU blows in the mean time. I have a hard time justifying the expence of upgrades to myself but if bits blow up then it becomes much easier :D.

When you say silent - can you tell the difference in noise between your PC being on and your PC being off? This is what I want to achieve eventually - total silence.

if the clips are the same as the ones on the xp120 then you can use the clips to mount the 140mm fan on diagonally, still covers the same area on the h/s but it sticks out around the edges.

I think they are the same. tbh the 120mm i was using i just had resting on top lol didnt even bother with the clips

I have ordered one of then 140mm fans so will see if it fits (fingers crossed)

Chris Beard: There is an ever so slight whisper from the psu, thats with the lid off me case and it on my desk next to me. the 120mm fan in it runs at like 600rpm or somethin, it's barely moving :)
