Bags, black bags in particular but carrier bags for some reason are always handy, oh and no man is ever complete without Superglue and a Hammer, can fix anything that way 
Extension Cables, drill, and vacum cleaner, sounds girly but it's easier to tidy up without the furniture, also get any decorating, in particular painting done before furniture arrives. Table and chairs unless ofcourse you like eating off boxes...
Shower kit and toothbrush for those who are hygenic and at least a blanket if you don't take a full bed kit. Blow up matressess are cheap in comparison to the whole thing, very handy if you've got to buy a bed.
Bog roll and dust sheets and white spirit. A couple of mates and a crate of beer helps with moving of the furniture, just make sure they move the furniture to the new place before the beer is opened.
