Things to buy in Hong Kong

Taxi's are so cheap out there. You'll spend £1, maybe £2 and can pretty much get anywhere. ALl the locals use them, which says something about the price!

Right now temperature I think is around 22/23 but getting cooler. I was out there two weeks ago and it was 30 and humid!

Flights were £400 return from Virgin. Can go with Oasis for around £200 I think!

Accommodation is the killer i think.....

HK uses the same power sockets as UK

i was gonna mention this, no adaptors needed unless you get something which they've picked up in japan.

i don't really rate hong kong being cheap for electronics, the prices i feel are on par with stuff you can get on the internet back in the uk.

however, clothes are a must.

going out is also a must, everyone is fairly friendly, i got by on my own by trolling gigs and meeting other people to drink with, a very enjoyable experience

Beef Jerky - the proper stuff, not the shoe leather they sell in the UK/US :p
Cakes from Maxims - gorgeous selection.
Fruit - Being a tropical country, everything is fresh and looks 5x bigger than the ones in the supermarket.
Breakfast - congee and fried dough sticks.
fan ban DVD/VCDs - erm....
XO from the airport - get your pucka spirits here.

and for the females
Face whitening products - Females dont aspire to be tanned. The paler the better. To the point where you'd think they dunked their head into a tub of self raising flour.

Quoted for the win. My fiance's gran makes the best:D . Also, sea food. If you have the time, go to Sai Kung for the best. Also go there for dessert if you can. Honeymoon dessert. Mango saigo for the win :D

You should be able to get a good discount just be prepared to bargain hard! Paying in cash should help you get a larger discount in some places...

Markets tend to be a fair bit cheaper but be careful because you're more likely to get ripped off too. There are a lot of internet advise sites that list decent shops in Hong Kong so its worth having a look for these.

It's an awesome place, you're bound to have a great time! I just hope you have better weather then i did, I caught the end of the recent monsoon and the cloud cover was pretty bad. Even with that the views were still amazing!

Edit, oops didnt really say what was good to buy... erm well i was staying in tsim sha tsui which was a pretty interesting place. Just about every shop sells either electronics or .... electronics and a couple sell electronics and porn. I picked myself up a nice 24-105L lens which saved me over £100 on the very cheapest prices I could find in England so I was pretty pleased.

Probably the best thing to buy is food! Sooo many different types of restaurants so that was the best bit for me ;) There are a lot of people trying to sell you tailored suites (even when your carrying a huge backpack and covered in dirt!) so you might want to look into that a bit before you go if that interests you. Actually thats probably the most important thing you should do. Know what you want to buy, how much it costs here and the dollar value of what you are willing to pay for it there before you start negotiating. Remember you probably won't get a warranty with any electronics and you should also factor in the cost of posting home any boxes/manuals you want to keep (saves troubles with customs later).

Hong Kong's development will basically make UK look like it is still in the 1800s. I loved Hong Kong... the foods there is great. Have any of you tried this restaurant called Zen in pacific place? They serve really nice dim sums. And you guys should go like Ocean terminal, Sogo etc. I think I will go HK again next year summer, maybe after HK I will head to Japan and back to UK ( sigh ).

O I forgot, if you guys want to have a nice dessert after a meal, go to this shop called: Shi Liu Shan. Its one excellent shop selling fantastic desserts.
