Hey all!

Going to Sziget Festival in Budapest in August, and will be there for three days after.

Any recommendations for things to do to recover from a week long festival?

Open to anything!

Drink loads of beer, as it is cheap.

The food there is great, so treat yourself to a decent restaurant.

The castle up on the hill and national history museum are worth a visit. Go up gelert Hill for a great view over the city. The fine art museum has some nice stuff, too. The basilica (St Steven's?) Is impressive- make sure you go up the stairs to the roof to appreciate the view.

Walking around the city centre is top, loads of fabulous buildings. Look out for the bullet holes in walls (above ground floor) to appreciate just what a rough time they've had in various wars/ occupations.

Walk across the chain Bridge and appreciate how enormous the danube is.

Be careful on late nights in Pest as it can be a bit... edgy.

I've been 3 times, with friends, a stag do and with the missus.

Shoes on the Danube is a powerful symbol, check that out, and while you're there go and see the parliament building, then cross the bridge and walk up to Fisherman's Bastion.

If you're into classical music, then I'd recommend the Franz Liszt museum. As has been said, food + drink is great there. If you want to go to some young and trendy places, then look for 'ruin bars'.

Edit: ooo and I almost forgot the thermal baths are great. The indoor ones stink of sulphur because they're natural springs, don't let that put you off though.

Idk if you've booked a hotel yet, but I'd recommend Hotel Mystery, it's a 5-star hotel but really quite cheap, and it's in a really good location close to the bus stop.

Budapest is a city where it really pays dividends to wander.

Grab yourself a freshly made and delicious Kürtőskalács (chimney cake) and stroll both banks of the Danube, excellent views of the Parliament and Buda Castle. There's a tiny funicular from the shoreline up to the castle too.

Gellert Hill for the views. Gellert thermal spa is adjacent, the two friends I was with rated that quite highly. There are others.

Really enjoyed strolling through Central Market Hall for its wealth of produce, street food, snacks and sweets.

Lots of nightlife of course. Perhaps try one of the 'ruin' bars as mentioned above, such as Szimpla Kert / Jewish Quarter.

Museums of assorted varieties if that is your thing. For something different, how about the Flippermuzeum for its collection of vintage pinball machines. Or Memento Park, an open-air repository of Communist statuary. That's only 5-6 miles outside of the centre. Or House of Terror at Andrassy Ut.

And for a Christmas gift and chuckle, buy a bottle of the local tipple - Unicum.

Citadel for views at sunset so you get the night views aswell magical.

Fishermans bastion and the church.

Szimpla kert for some nightlife a ruin bar also went to a cool spanish bar forgot the name changes into night club at night.

Go inside the parliament building its jaw dropping beautiful inside.

Enjoy one of my favourite citys in Europe and great for a solo traveler.

My (former) friend with whom I went to Budapest raved about Unicum and bought a bottle of it. He insisted we try it. From memory it tastes like dirty turps mixed with old grass cuttings.

I had my only holiday fight in Budapest, with that former friend. On the plus side, I won. A bit awkward, as we were sharing a room for another four nights.
