We're going to Edinburgh for a couple of nights at the end of the month, Friday and Saturday night, staying at the MacDonald Holyrood hotel.

Just looking for restaurant, bar, nightlife, places to visit, etc, if anyone has any recommendations please? Many thanks in advance.

We were there a few years ago for a long weekend, and I particularly remember the restaurant Twenty Princes Street, not far from North Bridge, the food, service and ambience were all really good.
The narrowish street behind the restaurant, Rose Lane? or Rose St? had a few enjoyable pubs in it, also a street off North or South Bridge, possibly Blair St?, had a few good pubs in it.

Thank you, much appreciated.

christmas shopping, putting christmas decorations up early and listening to christmas music whilst drinking some thing from a can that contains a very high alcohol content.

maybe nip to Glasgow for a smile

Is that what you've been doing tonight, or what you'd recommend I'd do in Edinburgh?

As its now dark proper early I'd be tempted to head towards the castle and look over the Xmas markets... great view.

Proposed to my wife in front of the castle with the very same view ... cheese fest

I was thinking that the Christmas market could be worth a look, and the castle too, thanks. Cheesy but awesome at the same time.

Thanks all for the replies, much appreciated, I think I've now got enough for my next 3 trips and then some...

A lot of the restaurants are fully booked already, I should probably have thought about this earlier, but hey ho, you live and learn.

We've booked Makars for lunch on the Friday to set us up for the day, travelling up for about 11am, then we're going to organise the rest of the weekend tomorrow, hopefully see some of the sights.

Hopefully somewhere for a nice steak on the Saturday night, if not, some of the restaurants suggested so far on here look fantastic if there's any availability.
