But with a caveat - No museums, and anything really with a guide speaking English, so no guided tours. (The person I am with can't speak English)

I have 3 nights (so 2 days) in Edinburgh and I need to fill it with exciting stuff. Planned a trip to Isle of May already to see the Puffins but that day's evening will be free, planning to do a whisly tasting (don't need English for that), but the 2nd day I am unsure what to do. Weather permitting I will go up Arthur's Seat, but then what? Is the Caslte free to get in, or can I walk around the grounds outside for free? Seeing that the company I am with don't want to go into any museum so if the inside feels like you are walking around a museum then it would be a waste of money.

You can walk up to the castle but you do need to pay to get in.

https://www.nationalgalleries.org/ is free.

Museum is free.

The Scott monument is a great view if you can squeeze up there!

Calton hill is also a great view.

All of these things are within about 10 minutes of each other.


Lots of tourist stuff does have guides though e.g. ghost tours and Mary King's Close.

How fun are these tours if you don't understand a word? That is my fear.

I’m pretty much as far south as you can get from Scotland and didn’t have an issue understanding the guides.

You can always slope off if you’re not feeling it.

It's not about the accent, it's about not speaking a word of English. (not me)

My friend don't speak English so if if it a guided tour it will make her feel a little left out/confused and boring.

If it is a place where we can just wonder around at our own pace then that is okay.

Yes thats what we did, walk as fast or as slow as you like. Something about see they very dining table/chair etc where the Queen and several world leaders had dinner.

Certainly surprised myself how much I enjoyed it, I only went as my wife wanted to see it.
