I won't be able to apply to become a fireman for atleast 3-4 years as my local fire brigade aren't recruiting right now. What should I do to pre-pare myself? Its been my life long dream to do this and its the only thing I'd enjoy doing in my life.

Thanks for any help.

  • Get rid of that fear of flames.
  • Water your garden every night with a hose.
  • Take your cat to the top of a tree, then rescue it.
  • Use an angle grinder to cut a dummy out of your wife's car.

Learn how to play pool! :P

Nope seriously though, I think the majority of the training is on-the-job

Definitely get as fit as you can - although from what I gather the fitness tests are comparable to the police - I may be wrong though...

Check eyesight requirements. They might not accept surgically corrected eyesight.

Get as physically fit as you can is the only thing I can think of.

I've been weight training for 6 years now and go swimming 3-5 times a week. I feel I'm physically fit to do this. I guess its going to be a grind for the next 3-4 years working 9-5. :)

Too funny. :D

I do have a fear of heights, I'm going to get rid of that. What are the best ways to beat this fear?

I always wondered if you could be like the Pyro out of TF2 but with an extinguisure(sp) on your back, would be awesome.

Thought about cooking? Learn a couple of meals you could make for a team of people.

Assuming they actually do that :)

Get used to the smell of the blood from a 17 year old and his girlfriend as you are trying to cut them out fo their wrecked saxo at 2 in the morning.

Practice carrying people up and down stairs... offer to carry your workmates up to their office for £1 and then down again at the end of the day :)
