Hi All,

I have been going back and forth trying to work out how much to spend. Going to give the Nvidia 3d vision thing a go. Ideally i'd like to keep it around the £1,000 mark with the lot which means around the £600 for the box as the screen/glasses are £400.

Thinking of this. With the future maybe put another 260gtx card in or over clock the cpu a bit, maybe get a solid state hd. I have been tossing up i7, Dual core or quad so basically went the middle! I have a case with a dvd drive :P Any better thoughts?

OcUK Value Geforce GTX 260 "Core 216" 896MB with Far Cry 2 & Mirror's Edge & 2GB Flash Pen - Retail £149.49
Asus P5N-D nForce 750i SLi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £97.98
OCZ StealthXStream 700w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply £71.99
Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD6401AALS) £59.98
OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 Dual Channel (OCZ2G10664GK) £39.99
Akasa AK-965BL Blue LED CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775) £18.39

I don't know about you, but I'd definately go for a 1tb HDD.
Rest of the system looks pretty balanced, although SLI is quite overrated imho and it's not like you're not gonna be able to play anything on full settings on a gtx260 in the near future.

Agreed that looks like a nice system. Although I think if sli is a possible in the future I would go for a slightly beefier power supply I know its a bit more money but would be worth it in the long run The minimum wattage nvidia reccomend for 2 x 260 is a 750W supply look here - http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html .
I personally dont think sli is overrated so long as your expectations are'nt too high. Using crysis as a benchmark (it is the system killer after all) When using sli I have found that I am able to max out all settings and still have an average frame rate of around 35 fps (crysis is very playable at this fps) with lovely smooth gameplay and virtually no slow down. Now if I try this with just one card running at these settings the game is almost unplayable and at times will turn to a slideshow or even crash out.
For me that is enough to show the benefits of sli.
Regarding HDD size that probably is a personal use type question I have a 500 gig data drive and find it to be plenty big enough.

Cheers mate. I was going to grab two 640 HD's one for back up. 2 X 1TB probably worth it for the price diff.

Yeah not sure about sli either but thought just get the mother board and a reasonable gfx card and see how things go can always get two new gfx cards later too if things are running slow :D

Thanks for that going for a bigger power supply now just in case and also changed the CPU to the yorkfeild with the standard fan for now.

Going to order later tonight!

1000 Watts seems like a lot but the nvidia website seems to suggest 750 watts if you put in two 260 GTX's in sli. Maybe I'll just go with the 700w and one gtx 275 and not worry about hte extra power/heat/compatibility issues etc

Instead of that 1000W hiper, I'd go for any of these:

+1 for the last post.
it's not like the 1kw hiper is not gonna perform, but I'd rather get a corsair or zalman instead.
the nvida spec mght be 750w, but not even with the meanst overclocking possible on the cpu and gfx's you're not gonna get anywhere near 650w. :D
