Things you could do when you where young....

I do remember being outside and playing outside a lot more.

Before mobile phones of course, you had to "call round" for people if they weren't at the park at the designated time.

Knock knock knock...
Door opens...
"Is Matthew in?"
"MATTHEW?! YOUR FRIEND IS AT THE DOOR"
"You coming out? We're playing wembley. "

*Or*

"He can't come out today because he has homework to do"

Now this I do miss, rounding everyone up then all heading to the park till 7/8 when its dinner time then back out again. Specially in the summer.

Oh, one thing I saw yesterday, was in a club, someone threw some soggy tissue at the toilet wall (yea, rough club). Reminded me of the times we did that at school lol.

During the 60s and 70s any area with a decent sized piece of grass would have kids playing football on it.
Since the 80s I've never seen this anymore and perhaps that's why we've got such a crap English team.

During my youth any decent sized piece of grass, we could never be bothered playing football..:p

Watching Robot Wars and building the house robots from K'nex, then getting a few similar mates round who made competitor robots and fought. I then took great satisfaction in destroying the loser.:)

Not being able to drink a whole can of coke
Calling fizzy drinks 'pop' as well

Impromptu games of football and heads and volleys, 5-a-side once a week doesn't really compare...

That reminds me of something that doesn't happen anymore because of mobiles. Going to town on the bus with a mate and losing each other when one of you is paying etc. Then you walk shop to shop trying to find them but giving up and catching the bus home only to hear off your mum that said mate has been ringing you after he had done the same. Then you talk on the phone saying

"I looked in Our Price and you weren't there"
"I looked in there as well"
"Then I looked in .....

ETC

Running!..

I used to be a 'Racing snake' now I'm a 'Fat Python' :(

On a more general note... going out with my mates on a MAHOOSIVE bike ride (we did Thatcham to Hungerford down the Canal Tow Path... well at lease as far as it went!!).. No Mobile Phone (they were'nt invented back then!! ).. No word of where we were going to our parents.. only £5 between the 6 of us for drinks and snacks.. and we came back with change!!!... got back home at 6pm (went out at 8am) had our tea... went out again, to muck around on the nearby building site.. back in at 9pm for bedie-byes at 10pm

All things my kids will never probly even consider doing.. let alone actually doing!! :p

Get a clip round the ear from a copper for stealing a bottle of lemonade off the Maine lorry. Then going home and telling my ma a copper hit me and why. Then getting cracked by my ma with the wooden spoon.

Yeah real policing.

I got a smack on the head off a copper because we were climbing on the roff of the bowls hut near my house and jumping off over a hedge, almost landed on him and he smacked me round the head and told me to pee off and pack it in :p

I had a cool base down the local park, they cut down all the bushes were it was though now :(

Making a treehouse.

One day me and 5 other mates built one in out local forest.

We went there everyday of the summer and just chilled out. Was ace.

I dunno, every bit of green around me had kids on it all the time in the summer playing football. I know this as i was one of them :D if we couldn't get on the green we just played in the road on my mates street which was a dead end. One woman never put her handbreak on so we just pushed it 10 yards up the road, played our game and pushed it back after!

Making dens then charging at anyone who tried to invade it.

Gathering all the kids up and having waterfights/snowball fights with the kids from the other areas. Just having a general laugh and not being worried about anything.

War of the Buttons too, every year. We had 4-5 'gangs' from the area and would just all out attack each over throughout the whole summers.

Could end up nasty sometimes, we had a few casualties. :(
