My Work PC has a ASUS A68HM-PLUS MOBOn CPU is a 7700K, I am not overclocking. and 8GB (single stick) Kingston KHX1600C10D3B1/8G

I have one more slot and found a 4GB 2Rx8 PC3-12800U-11-11-B1 In an old PC going in the bin.
I see the speeds are the same (1600) (not sure or educated enough about timings) but Is it worth me trying this in my system? I mean if not it's going in the bin. Can you add 4gb to an 8gb single stick? I never hear of anyone with 12GB RAM but might it work?
shall I just shove it in and run memtest? I guess my question is what is the worst than can happen?
