Think i got away with it.

memtest completed with no errors, so i guess it's ok.
Any thoughts on leaving it oc'd, because it has this turbo v button which will apply your oc profile?
 
hmm never sure about using thoser profiles personally. Check in bios as to what speed and settings your mem is running at. what are your temps for running at the profile 3.9? I tried that myself and the numbers were stupid, as the voltages can be way out and create too much heat. Remember each chip is unique to an extent and may not clock as another has.
 
idle/browsing temps at 3.9 are around 26/27. something is making a little bit more noise though.

Edit- actually, it's probably just my imagination.

Thanks for your help guys. it's idling at 24/25 with OC now, so it looks like its ok.

One strange thing has happened though. during startup, i get some beeps during post, and a message appears saying "problem with CPU fan. press F3 to resume". I resume and it all starts up with no problems. i can't see anything that i can do to change anything. the fan is working fine, from the moment it turn's on.
