Not a service I'd trust anything even remotely important to...

I'm guessing it's OpenVZ/Virtuozzo based? This allows a VPS provider to seriously oversell the resources of the host node... At $2 a month, they would likely be looking at placing 40-100 virtual machines per box. Watch out for poor database performance, primarily (because of the lack of disk i/o).

not much cheaper then vidahost though surely? £17 for basic package per year or even cheaper for more then one year at a time which also includes 1 free domain name registration

the deal mentioned comes to £15.68. though with that said i just realised i don't know what VPS means

Basically, lots of Virtual Machines running on 1 server. TBH I'm a bit wary of cheap as chips VPS hosting for the resource contention issues daz mentioned.
