Think i've been hijacked

I had this one day last week, popped up about 5 times in half an hour despite me using no POP3 and everything is fine. I've scanned for viruses, spyware/adware since too and everything is clean.

This message simply means that AVG is detecting outbound comms on POP3.

P2P sharing sometimes use POP3 ports as the peers sometimes are set up to use POP3 ports as the users are behind a firewall that allows POP3 traffic through.

It is almost certainly OK - unless you are not running P2P in which case run all the spyware/trojan detectors you can find

sometimes get the email scanner thing pop up with my avast when using bit torrent, could be to do with this.

I used to get that as well, for me it was bit torrent traffic.

Apparently some people configure their clients to use standard email ports to try and get around ISPs traffic shaping, AVG detects these connections, presumes they are email and sets about scanning for virii.

If you have recently been torrenting, trackers could well still be pointing people towards your ip.

In Azureus, you can list ports to ignore...I added 25 and 110 iirc and the AVG box hasn't been back since.

14 month old PB lappy, just about ready for the bin really.

adaware found a handfull of tracking cookies, defender doesn't find anything. just rebooting to finish installing NOD32.

beg to differ!

Ahh, didn't have a clue what you were refering to (i've slept since i posted that!)

It's PB build quality. The battery is dead (died after 8 months), some of the pads under the keyboard stick, left click mouse button is duff, power socket is buggered, need to jam the adapter in and if you type too quickly/slam a door/give it a harsh stare/etc the power lead falls out and turns off instantly, DVD burner no longer burns a usable disc at 4x, need to use 2x. Piece of crap.

Running Tiscali, but it's basically rebranded BT isn't it?

Nope, Tiscali run their own equipment and their own network. Completely separate from the BT stuff that most ADSL ISPs use.
