Hi all,

About 6 month's ago my AMD RX470 stopped spinning it's fan, no output etc. I did not have time to do much with it at the time.

So I tested it in my main PC last week, removing my temporary card, after installing the amd card nothing,
PC would not boot, spin cpu fans anything, thought I had killed my PSU or mobo.

After removing cmos battery and placing back the pc booted (with no GPU card)

So I think this is it for the GPU, is there anything else I can do to test it? other than plug it in and try and boot the machine? ( also a bit apprehensive to do that again after I thought it broke my machine!)

thanks in advance,

Al

Not a lot, if you have a multimeter you may be able to test at certain points for a voltage. Other than that, try a different pc, try different power cables, take it apart and check for faults, loose wires, burn marks.

Lastly you could try baking in the oven.

Power cables . Just thought I've a new power supply tester coming. Can use that to test the power supply for the gpu.

Also have a spare machine that needs repairing. Will see if that has a pci lane. It's old so may not!

It looks pretty clean but if I get no joy in the above removing the heatsink etc and dismantling a bit is a plan.

Cheers for the ideas !

As I said, google reflowing, it's basically covering the gpu in foil and putting in oven for a few mins at the right temp, it's worked for many before but doesn't usually last long.
