Hey guys

Was playing BC2 earlier, screen went black but I could still hear the sounds etc. I presumed it'd frozen so restarted the comp. Upon restarting my monitor didn't turn "on" from standby, displaying "no signal." My tower turns on fine and I can still login (with a bit o' guesswork) and the fan on the graphics card does spin. I've tested my monitor with a laptop and the monitor appears fine.

Dead graphics?

Cheers.

Sounds like a capacitor on the card. It sounds like a case of returning it if its under warranty.

If its not, use the oven trick... [/JOKE]

Just did this mate and now when I turn the tower on there's a very loud, high-pitched squeal coming I assume from the graphics card?

Seems like your almighty 8800 has finally packed in :(

Still under warranty? I would get it replaced if you can. But fi you cant i would buy a new 5770 to replace it or even a 5850.

Cheers for the advice gents. Card's an XFX 8800 GTS someone gave me ... I'll do some digging but I doubt it's still under warranty.
Will have to start researching a new card to replace it ... :(

Them cards are famous for screaming when they die :( . Worth looking into the power thing, use your onboard graphics for now.

I assume you have checked the ratings on your PSU? Check the sound is not coming from the PSU. Then you can try the good old fashioned volt/amp meter on your GFX card PSU connections to check they are what they should be.

If you have an extra PSU, try it out there!

Sorry for the confusion gents it was screaming because I forgot to put the PCI cable back in.
The card's been fine for years so I don't think its the PSU?
Having reseated it the fan still spins on the card but no signal :(.
