Think my PS3 just died! HELP!

Was just racing on GT5 and it started to stutter, then POOF it turned off and now just flashes red.

It was a 4 year old 40gb model, buying a new one is not a problem, but all my save games are on there, can I get them off? the PS3 will not turn on at all.

Transplant the hard drive into a new machine (no idea if this will work)?

According to google I dont think it's possible to just drop it into a different unit.

Been looking on youtube and google for fixes, and might give it a good blast with a hairdryer see if it lasts long enough to copy my GT5 saves to a USB stick.

It's an automatic format prompt before it can be used if one went that route.

sorry for you loss

Mine died about a week ago. Heat gun trick got it going again though so I was able to back everything up. I say give it ago, you've got nowt to lose seeing as you can't just swap hdd's between consoles.
