Woke up this morning to find 2 things on the floor in the hall. An unopen bill from the bank/electric board, and a cheque book. Yup, just a cheque book, without the front sheet too. Someone had opened the envelope, tear off the front sheet and put the cheque book through our door.

The cheque book is not any cheque book either, it's the cheque book to my dad's business. My dad is away at the moment (I can reach him by phone) I am going to report it to the bank today, but what can they get with the front sheet? Can they clear out the account?

I'm not sure what they can do with it, but it clearly states to destory it after tearing it off, which suggests it's a security risk.

front sheet will have had business address on it and of course they will have had the account numbers too I guess....

Report it to the bank ASAP (like you say your going to) and it might be worth give RM a quick buzz and mentioning this too :)

I'd go into my local sorting office and want to speak to a manager of some kind, getting names etc. They'll know who delivered it. Get down to the bank first and talk to them, see what could happen and if they have any advice, again I'd not talk to a clerk, get in and see a manager.

I'd not let this rest.

Middle eastern workers working for the RM?

Theft in the Royal Mail is common. I'm afraid there isn't a lot that can be done about it.

aye happens in my area ALL THE TIME, banks have now resported to special hand deliverys (and my area isnt that bad). When all the postmen are driving merc/bmws you know something dodgy is going on.

bear in mind it may have been a mistake - he may have delivered it to the wrong address and that's how it's been tampered with.

Make sure you move quickly though and tell the bank although it does seem a bit bizzare because whoever has taken it would probably destroy the chequebook to give them time to clear it out - rather than just push it through your door, alerting you to the problem.

What the hell?

If anything I'd say the native lazy, rude white British men are worse. At least, our postie is one of those and we have lots of problems, including trails of rubber bands all around the place.

as everyones said
report to bank AND royal mail
these postmen get a GOOD wage and tbh if he IS stealing from people should be shot, though the overys twice.

And then nuked from orbit, its the only way to be sure.

My step dad was a postman for 25 years. I don't condone this kind of activity as when your employed by the RM you are expected to show loyalty and trustworthy to your employer.

 I hate people who steal/cheat/defraud others.

Seems strange that they apparantly mess with it and then post it through your door. Wouldn't they realise it would obviously make them the prime suspect? Common sense would say you keep it so that the person recieving it presumes the letter is lost in the post.

some people have no common sense but think they can get away with stuff like this

Cheque book shouldnt be a problem, they only have a sortcode and account number which cant really be used for jack.

They could try and forge a signature and write a cheque, but even then your looking at 3/4 days till that clears - give the bank a call and get the chequebook / cheques blocked.

:)

I'd be more worryed that they had tampered with it AT ALL.

May have been delivered to wrong address first, plus the only thing you wanna really be worried about with bank stuff is your card numbers, etc..

I can't see any problem with this, just call bank to stop the cheques - and contact Royal Mail see what they have to say.
