Think these are overkill for a Clio?

The worrying thing is, there are quite a few people who would consider them ideal for the job and settle for "nothing less"

One day, the internet will understand that manufacturers make a range of products for a reason.....

One day....

Reminds me of when I was mildly into downhill mountain biking a few years ago. All of the guys who thought they were 'pro' insisted on fitting 4 pot brakes to their bikes because 2 pot just 'wasn't good enough'.

Your brakes are only half of the story. Just like power and torque, you need to be able to transmit that force to the ground for it to be useful.

I toyed with fitting wilwood 4 pots to my Williams. A lot of tracked Valvers,Willaims, 172, 182's etc run those.

I've not come across any Clio's running 8pots, but I think there was a guy who did a 400bhp VAG engine conversion that did....mind you the car was rubbish and kept blowing up. :s

I want the big brake kit on my valver (got white willy wheels on) just cause I think it looks great! :D

was that Mats clio that kept blowing up?

I remember flans TT one had 4 pots, and stopped very well!

I've got the 21T brakes on mine (285mm) and they almost stop as well as my mates hi-spec 4 pots.. His weighs far less than mine though, I was using pradas and he uses Eagle F1's..

A standard clio stops in a shorter distance from 100mph than a 997, that doesn't sound right.

Also, 8pots, wouldn't they just lock the wheels a heck of a lot?

Indeed, brakes are either on or off after all. :p

There cheap Taiwan imported calipers though, I think I'd sacrifice 'pottage' for a more established brand.

Flans was well built.

I forget the builder/owner of the other one, it was a mk2 phase 1, orange 1.2 chassis which was eventually painted matt black.

He got VERY upset when I suggested it was crap after the two events I'd been to when it was supposed to be running, and never made it off the trailer.

A 106 GTI will do the same too IIRC. Probably not time after time after time, but the initial stop will be quicker. 90's lightweight hot hatches with discs all round and decent rubber bleed speed like you've chucked an anchor out the rear end. :)

His name's Matt Black, funnily enough :p

No, it stops quicker than a 911 of the same year, I never said new 911 :)

Haven't got a scan of the mag anymore but a mate who has the magazine, he says:

It's from Autocar and dated 13th July 2000. I have it as a one pager - there's not much on it and the highlights were:

''Clio 172...decelerated from 100mph to 0mph in 3.99 seconds - beating cars including Ferrari 360 Modena...Caterham Superlight R500 and Porsche 911 Turbo''.

They offer decent performance though. I've had a ride in the importers 500bhp skyline on a trackday and they certainly seemed to work well enough on that.
