Vintage Nikon Fisheye Lens on Sale for $160,000

Are you in the market for a fisheye? This one will only set you back $160,000. Nikon created this extreme wide angle lens back in 1970, for the Photokina trade show. It’s the Nikkor 6mm f/2.8, and it has a 220º field of view. The lens weighs about 11 pounds, with a minimum focusing distance of 25cm. When it was first introduced, it was the widest lens available. They only made a few hundred of them, and it took Gray’s of Westmister six months to track one down. Kinda makes spending $1,600 on a lens seem like a great deal, right?

I thought it was just going to be an expensive lens because of it's history until I clicked on the link and saw the thing!

220 degrees! How's that even possible? If it was able to see completely left and completely right, that only 180 degrees, plus any light from a 0 or 180 degree wouldnt be travelling towards an aperture, so the max it could have would be about 160ish. How can this thing can see behind itself? Or am I being dim.

Nikon's golden days, wish some would give me a Nikon 300mm f2.0 - yes 2.0 & 300mm:D

I wonder what brenizer-ing that out to 85 f/0.6 would look like... Admittedly the 4m MFD won't be great but then again you'd probably have to be about that far out anyway... Would be awesome imo

offt thats a wide lens.
I'd imagine it would be a bit of a pain to use without a tripod.

If the golden days of a company were making niche products with no hope of turning a decent return on them then thats slightly worrying for that company! :p

I'd say Nikon are going through a bit of a golden age right now, there current line up of Cameras is brilliant if they could just sort out some clever marketing like the Canon L series then they would be away!
