Thinking about a new sytem

Thanks for the replies, I don't mind changing to that motherboard, but I would prefer different ram to that even if I have to change the cpu cooler, mainly because I want it to look good internally as well.

Any other options on memory/cpu cooler combo to go with the gigabyte board?

Sorry, slight change of plan, I will not be overclocking so decided to go with this (can anyone see any problems)

I already have the following:-

750w psu
250gb ssd
10k rpm ide drive
3 x 24" monitors for eyefinity

so decided to look at this and go cpu watercooled: -

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Crysis 3 & Bioshock PC Games £311.99
1 x Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail £249.95
1 x Gigabyte X79-UD3 Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard £179.99
1 x Corsair Dominator 16GB (4x4GB) PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit (CMP16GX3M4X1866C9) **SPECIAL** £139.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (Socket 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £99.98
1 x Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) £8.99
Total : £1,002.89 (includes shipping : £10.00).

Why go for a more expensive cooler if your not overclocking? You could just buy a cheap £20-£30 cooler and run it easy at stock.

Mainly because I have had issues in the past with cheap coolers and also because I dont really like the look of the green memory as I want it to look good when looking through the case window (it's the ocd in me :D )

Whats the difference between the UD3 and Gigabyte X79-UP4 boards? I would not mind the UD5 as I'm upgrading from the GA-X58A-UD5 board

Xfire for the 7950s, you should get a mega games bundle so check into that. It's amazing what you can get for your money :)

The 3820 doesn't come with a heatsink anyway so buy a good one. Good air cooler is better value but if you want a decent CLC cooler fair enough. The antec 1220 is a good shout or the H100i.

UP4 is the "ultra performance" level of mobo. The UD3 isn't bad with a BIOS update for overclocking but the UP4 supports more RAM. You'll notice i've worked 32GB in quad channel and that's half the mobo will take (would max the UD3). So yes do overclock, especially the 7950 to close the gap to the 7970 whilst saving money.

Can work in the Hexcore CPU but I would have thought that dual cards would be more helpful for running that large res on eyefinity.

Thanks, I'm liking the look of that setup, would a 750w psu cope with that?

If you have a good one.....I get the feeling you don't buy cheap tat ;)

Oh you don't need the paste but I would have gone with the Arctic cooling MX2......it's a bigger tube for the same price and it performs very well.

It's a 750w High Power modular one a purchased fom pc world as a quick fix because my enermax one popped, I'm not sure how good it is so if you could spec me a decent one that would be appreaciated.

Ideally a modular one with long cables as this case is huge and the psu sits at the bottom
