Thinking about an upgrade

Hello all,

It's five years in may since I bought my last graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 5870 PCS++ 1024MB) and I'm noticing now it's starting to struggle (GTAV) or even worse isn't meeting the minimum requirement for certain games.

The rest of the system is Intel Core I7 950 3.07Ghz/Asus P6X58D-E (Socket 1366)/Corsair Dominator 6GB DDR3 which I don't want to upgrade at the moment. What I would like to know is will those components hold back a card like a GeForce GTX 970 or do I go for a cheaper option? I obviously want to see a significant performance increase over the HD5870.

I would appreciate any advice you can offer me.

Thank you,

Iggy

If you can OC your i7 then the 970 should be a fine choice for that setup. Regardless, the cpu won't hold you back that much if you upgrade though obviously performance will be lower than newer ones, especially in GTA V which is quite CPU hungry.

It's looking like I'll have to buy a new monitor soon so the new G-card will have to wait at the moment. There wasn't any hurry anyway. I suppose the longer I wait the cheaper they'll be when the time comes.

Thanks guys.
