Hi guys,

I realise this is a laptop based post, but I posted in the laptop forum almost 3 days ago and got no reply sadly :( I wouldn't think ocuk would mind if it means I buy a £1500 laptop from them :p

I am tempted to buy the following but would really like some opinions before I splash the cash!

I am also hoping this laptop will cover the below:

  • Fast boot
  • Good battery life
  • High multitasking capabilities
  • Decent gaming capability
  • Decently lightweight

It will be on the move with me constantly, work, home and gf's

Thanks guys! :)

Not too sure about he portability of it because It's 17.3 Inches and weighs 2.6Kg. Personally, I'd be looking at some of the 15.6 Inch models. Some of the beefy ones are still capable when it comes to gaming, but are lighter and a fair bit cheaper too.

Hmm, it is quite heavy but I'm well used to lugging round a heavy rucksack :P It's a lot lighter than some of the 3.9kg models I've seen!

I read this review on it, seems brilliant for all but the slight lapse in the graphics

I only realy play WoW atm, which as far as I know is very CPU intensive, this laptop will absolutely blitz wow on ultra yea?

I agree - 2.6Kg is very light for a 17" laptop. A lot of 15.6" laptops struggle to get the weight below that.
For that price point, it's certainly the one I would go for in terms of gaming.
Either that, or go for one of the custom built machines - these represent better value for money and you only spend what you need.

I like your thinking, no offense to OCUK but their shells on the custom builds are nowhere near as pretty as the MSI/Gigabyte ones :P

Clevo barebones......pretty decent, on the whole - many system builders use these chassis'. That said, for me, they are either really bland or hopelessly over-the-top (illuminated logo on trackpad?! spectrum analyser thingy?!)...

MSIs latest units look pretty tasty, as do the latest Gigabyte offerings, although there have been issues seemingly on some (e.g. P35k 'flexing')

The Clevo P170SM, in the flesh, is a lovely looking laptop - and I happily recommend it. It also doesn't have the illuminated trackpad or flashy lights all over (which I believe are on the P177SM). Nice materials and a very solid build.

Seen GS70 and indeed quite well built and lightweight for a 17.3 inch. (Cannot comment on the performance though)

I have GIGABYTE P35K for your reference. I got the Gamer version but if budget allow you might as well go for Extreme one! As it should cover all your requirement. 2.3Kgs and with BluRay Writer!

Good luck! :)

Looking at what you're after, that laptop will definitely do fine. the 765m isn't the greatest though however it will run WoW on ultra without any problems but you might struggle at more recent MMOs like Guild Wars 2 for example.
