Thinking about first build

Hi, this summer im going to attempt to build a computer. My budget, well for the hardware... about £800. I would also like a 22" monitor, windows vista (64 bit probably) and speakers (5.1) on top of that budget. so maybe no more than £1100-1200...

I was thinking:
- Q6600 when the prices drop
- Ati 2900xt (always been a fan of ati)
- don't need a lot of hard drive space... so maybe the 320gb
- motherboard... this i am not sure of, there are so many to choose from!
- case... maybe the Antec Titan 650 Tower Case - 650w psu
- cpu cooler... Noctua NH-U12F?
- Optical drive... no idea...

Also ram... in the dell i have at the minute i have 4 gb @ 533, 2 of which were bought from crucial. I would like to use those 2 gb and put them in the new system. But... i heard i could not use that ram and overclock a Q6600 or even a E6600 because of the ratio 1:1 or something... is this correct? if so i will need new ram aswell..

Ive been looking about and have a spec made up, and i would like to see what you would do with the budget. Thanks

Something like this ought to be suitable, assuming that the Q6600 will drop in price then it might fit into the budget. Otherwise the options you are asking for are unrealistic for the price range. You could use your existing Ram but it will only run the system at stock speeds without overclocking and I don't know how well the Ram will overclock. I've put in some good Ram for overclocking in the specification instead.

Can you also recommend a 22" monitor and speakers? thanks

This one?

Dell E228WFP 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black £214.99 (£252.61)

There are other 22" which are quite a bit cheap 20-60 quid cheaper. Is this one worth the extra? or should i go with something like the:

LG L226WTQ 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor (£210)

Or one with a tv tuner...

LG M228WA 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor with TV Tuner - Black (230)

That one is tempting if it comes back in stock...

Thanks for the replies

That Dell doesn't really offer much over the other 22" monitors since they all (with the exception of one made by Eizo) use TN-film technology. If you're fan of glossy screens, i'd look into the HP w2207 which also has a height adjustable stand.

ah ok. Does anyone know if they will be getting that LG with the tv tuner back in stock any time soon?

Also, can anyone recomend a decent 5.1 surround sound speaker system please.

Thanks

not much... would £50 be enough for a decent set? don't know much about them. My last set broke (left a post in the sound section of the forum).
