Thinking about getting a Scottoiler - how much do they cost to run?

One of my big annoyances with bikes is maintenance of the chain, because I'm lazy.

So, I want to get a Scottoiler for my Hornet when I get it back. It could do with a new chain and sprocket anyway, so wanted to do that at the same time and start the chain out on a scottoiler.

I'm looking at this one: http://www.scottoiler.com/uk/Kits/Scottoiler-vSystem-CARB-EO-+-free-FS365/flypage.tpl.html

My question is: how long does say, 500ml last? It's relatively cheap (compared to Wurth Dry Chain Lube for the same amount), but if I'm going to go through a bottle of it every month then maybe not so cheap.

For £40 you can get 6L of the stuff with free delivery from the Scottoiler site, which for chain lube is really cheap. But still, if it's going to eat through that in a couple of months then it might not be worth it for me.

I do about 30 miles a day.

Thanks.

I do an average of about 20 miles a day and have only needed to top up the reservoir itself twice in about 6 months. The original 250ml bottle is gathering dust, but is plenty full.
6L would probably last a good year, at my rate!

That's pretty good. Very good in fact considering the price of 250ml, or even 500ml.

How much does the scottoiler itself take?

What do you think of the Scottoiler? How's your chain holding up?

They are very economical on oil. Unless you are doing an insane amount of mileage, then 6L would last you for years.

On the Tutoro oiler, if set to the recommended 1 drop per minute, a full reservoir of 50ml lasts up to 30 hours of riding.

Wow, nice. I think I read somewhere the Scottoiler is supposed to be 1-2 drops per minute as well, so judging by what you've said 500ml would last me 10 months (if I only commuted, so a little less with joy rides, and going out etc.).

Definitely treating my Hornet to a Scottoiler then! :D

Poor thing still somewhere in Birmingham waiting for parts/insurance companies :(

Had one on my ZX6R that I do about 25 miles a day on. Topped the scottoiler up maybe once a month and still on the 500ml bottle i bought with the actual scottoiler around a year ago. Just sold the bike but the chain was in pristine condition. Would easily recommend it on a commuting bike.

I got one recently and love mine. My question is that it obviously doesn't do the outsides so do I have to worry about that and just ignore its starting to go orange.

I have no idea. I'd have to get up off my backside, go outside and actually have a look, heh heh!! :D
The reservoir should last about 1500 miles, though.

I think it's great and my chain is doing very nicely!

Hah, I don't blame you :p.

1500 miles sounds good, really good in fact.

I thought the latest Scottoiler had a double end so it got both sides of the chain? A lot of people complained about the original ones as they'd miss the sides, but thought they had fixed that. That's what I've read anyway.

Thanks for all the input everyone, definitely going to be ordering one :)
