Hey guys

Its really about time for me to upgrade now as I have an athlon xp2400 and a geforece 4 4600ti running off an epox 8rda+

What I was thinking of getting is the following

Shuttle SN25P
Althon 64 3500+
Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200PT TwinX
XFX GeForce 7800GT Extreme LED Edition 256MB
Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 200GB 2000JS SATA-II x 2

Question is, will this all work together as I havn't kept up to date with the pc market :( Also, will the geforce fit as well, as i've read there have been issues with certain cards fitting?

The graphics card im going with is only because I've seen a lot of other people running it. Is there a better one (max budget about £250)

Looks like a very decent system there mate :)

Yes, it will work nicely together, however you might want to try this RAM if you REALLY would like to maximise that extra bit of performance;

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 (OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K) (MY-057-OC)

FYI: That graphics card is good.. probably the only real alternative would be the BFG OC 7800GT

Also.. the SN25P doesn't use SATA II, so you're going to be running them in SATA I speeds

....the difference is negligible at best, but I thought i'd give you a heads up!

By the looks of it, everything should fit together quiet nicely.

Didnt know about the SN25P not having SATA II speeds though. Not that of a big deal tbh. Your HD's should be fast anyway even at 'normal' SATA speeds.

Good choice in going with 2x 1GB of memory. I would also go with some OCZ mem. The 2x 1GB 3200 Plats or either 2x 1GB 3200 Gold GX XTC that OcUK stock. Both are fast and reliable sets of mem but Id go with the Gold's. I love OCZ Gold mem ;)

I would change the CPU to a Opteron 146. The 1MB would come in handy over the 512KB on the 3500+ Venice (I presume) also the scope for overclocking would be far better on the 146. If you can find one they are the CPU to have ;)

Overall it will be a pretty fast and quiet rig you would have.

I have a SN25P with a 7800GT in and it fits fine, however you have to remove the plastic fan duct on the left of the CPU for it to go in. You don't need this duct anyway - makes no difference to temps. :)

go for a 3700+ san diego, there only £140-£150 now, im under the impression san diego cores are also better than venice? plus the 3700 has a 1mb l2!
Oh and the drives still run nice and fast on sata1, iv got two of them in my sn95g5 which is only SATA, i was a bit gutted when i realised at 1st but its not too bad, it stops them having to spin up to full speed so there never a problem noisewise, and i guess it keeps the heat down too! and yes, they are fast.

They are alright from my expereince of having a SN95G5 v2. I had a 3800+ newcastle that I got to around 2700mhz stable and a 3800+ venice to the 2800mhz mark without any heat problem on both occasions.

Depending on if you leave it stock cooling, ram config and cpu, the shuttles can be decent for overclocking in my view.

Its like overclocking in general. It differs from system to system, because there are a lot of factors to consider. The user being the main inportant one in my view.
